Let’s start off with some personal information. What do you do for fun outside of music, how old are you, do you work, hobbies, etc?
Pat- I am an 18 year old aspiring guitarist that does just about what every other person in their late teens does. I have a girlfriend, part time job, and friends that I just jam with. Guitar is my main hobby of course but I also enjoy drawing.
NSM
Are you self-taught on the guitar or did you take lessons?
Pat- I would say a combination of both. I have had many guitar instructors that taught me differently. I have been playing since I was 11 and I only took off a few years from any instruction. I am currently teaching myself because I noticed that I am more of a self-learner.
NSM
When did you start writing music?
Pat- Ever since I started recording which was about 4 years ago. I have a strange process of writing music. I will usually come up with a groove and then I will record it. Then I would figure out what other instruments would sound cool over that. It's kind of like creating a puzzle and then trying to put it together.
NSM
Do you have any plans to put a band together or do you want to stay a “one-man” show?
Pat- Actually I have a band I am working with right now. We are performing the music of “Riverdance” in a performing competition. I prefer to produce music by myself but when it comes to performing I need other people to rock with. I would much rather hear a band performance on stage rather than a one-man guitar showcase.
NSM
What kind of people would be your ideal band members?
Pat- I prefer working with people that know what they are doing. People who are dedicated and have a lot of experience with what they do. I have high expectations for anybody that works with me or that I work with in a band.
NSM
Where and how do you record your music?
Pat- I record most of my music in the comfort of my home. I own a digital 8-track mixer and a few microphones. I never record anything professional or high quality that could be sold at a record store. They are mostly just demos and things that I can store away to look back on or use for any future recording projects. Sometimes I will use a friend’s house to record certain stuff like drums. Sooner or later I am going to visit a professional studio to get some recording done with my new band.
NSM
What is the name of your new band?
Pat- We have not established a name yet. That is one thing we definitely have to figure out!
NSM
What are some of the most significant musical moments in your life that have influenced you as an artist?
Pat- Going up on a stage to perform for the first time at a talent show. It felt great.
NSM
If you could choose one artist/band to perform with who would it be and why?
Pat- I would like to perform with Eddie Van Halen because he is simply awesome.
NSM
Tell us what you envision the performance being like.
Pat- It would be a dream.
NSM
What songs would you want to perform with Eddie?
Pat- Anything to be honest with you. If I had to pick it would be Panama.
NSM
Do you get a lot of support from family & friends when it comes to being a musician?
Pat- I get plenty, and if it wasn't for them I probably would
not have gone as far as I have now.
NSM
What is your ultimate goal as a musician?
Pat- I want to innovate something new for the music industry.
I am always working on new material and experimenting. I never focus and never will focus on one band or one genre of music. I would probably consider myself a rock guitarist but my ultimate goal would be to create a completely new genre of music. I am still learning new stuff and building my own sound. The same thing goes for a band or even a genre. That is more of a long-term goal but I think it is worth it.
NSM
Is there anything you would like to say to the people reading this interview?
Pat- For some reason I suck at guitar hero but I can wail on the real thing.
